HOUSTON MUSEUM OF CULTURE

The Houston Museum of Culture will provide immeasurable benefits for Houston. It will offer exhibits, programs, performances and special occasions in Houston that have generally not been available before. Just a few of the general features will include:

Media and Performing Arts Venues will provide a state of the art experience in relevant media and cultural arts for educational purposes and to improve quality of life through worthy, high caliber entertainment and cross-cultural experience.

Cultural Arts and Traditions will be presented, from the cultural identities of the past - religions, languages, food traditions, occupations and social life - that originate from isolated geographic origins, to the modern, mass influences in our global cultures.

Celebrations and Festivals will be ongoing, with planned participation of all of Houston's diverse communities, accounting for a significant share of the museum's visitation.

Academic and Community Interests will be represented in the museum planning structure. Committees and advocacy groups (or patron groups) will form to advocate for the presentation of specific topics and the inclusion of specific groups, either to be presented in the arts and education content, or to participate in programs. These interests are expected to be heavily guided by interested community groups and academic experts.

Houston and the Region's Legacy will be better preserved and interpreted through the museum exhibits, programs and archives. It is expected that some major legacies will be honored through the naming of resources and facilities.

Artists Markets and Cultural Tourism, as well as arts- and culture-related employment and daily traffic to sustain numerous local businesses and cultural resources, will be among the major economic benefits of the museum. The additional quality of life and educational benefits of the museum will result in immeasurable improvements to the city and region.

Cultural and Social Issues will be targeted to specific age groups and explored through museum topical content, helping bring positive changes to Houston communities. Museum facilities will provide appropriate spaces for media presentation, conferences, workshops, and community dialogue and interactive programs.
